Why DICE Exists?

DICE stands for Democratizing Internet Commerce for Everyone. This is our mission as an organization to make e-commerce accessible to every corner of India, empowering sellers, delivery partners, and users who were previously left out of the digital economy. Every decision we make, every feature we build, every strategy we pursue stems from this mission. DICE isn't just what we do - it's why we exist. The people who make this mission real are:

  1. Sellers - building businesses one listing at a time, navigating platforms they're learning as they go
  2. Valmo partners - navigating routes, managing CODs, building trust with every delivery
  3. Users - discovering products that change their lives
  4. Content creators - bringing those products to life through authentic stories
Understanding these key pillars helps us stay true to our mission

Living the Mission: DICE Visits

DICE Visits is one of the ways we bring our mission to life. It's a deliberate practice that pulls every employee from engineering to operations out of their desks and into the field, connecting them directly with the people we serve.

The idea is simple: if we want our platform to truly work for Bharat, we need to get out there and understand the people we are building for not from dashboards, but from ground level.

Imagine a product manager in Bangalore who has spent weeks optimizing checkout flows, perfecting every pixel and interaction. Then, she attends a workshop in Tier 3 Maharashtra and watches a seller struggle for 15 minutes trying to upload product photos not because she doesn't understand the feature, but because the file size is too large and there's no clear guidance on how to fix it.

Such moments reveal the gap between what we build and what people actually need. But here's what makes DICE Visits more than observation: every Meeshoite delivers a micro-solve, a real, tangible solution to an issue they encounter. No exceptions. You go, you listen, and you solve.

What Makes a DICE Moment?

India's commerce landscape is vast and beautiful. Our sellers range from urban manufacturers managing hundreds of SKUs to artisans in remote towns shipping their very first product. The challenges they face don't always surface in analytics or feedback forms. DICE Visits bridge that gap, taking teams beyond metrics and into the shoes of the people we serve. A DICE Moment is actually about addressing operational needs right there, in real time like:

  • Streamlining caller ID verification so delivery partners' calls are recognized
  • Creating a simple Excel tracker for cash management
  • Assisting a seller to use LLMs for product descriptions and many more

A DICE Moment isn't always dramatic, sometimes it's quiet and profound like sitting with a seller and truly understanding what stresses them out at 2 AM when orders spike. Watching a Valmo partner navigate a delivery route and seeing the small friction points, wrong addresses, and unrecognized phone numbers that compound into daily frustration.

Other times, it's about listening deeply and bringing insights back like flagging a critical issue that needs attention and recognizing a pattern that only becomes visible when you are there, in their space, experiencing their reality

What matters is: you don't just observe, you understand, and act upon it. That is how we turn empathy into accountability and mission into muscle memory.

Operating at Scale

Over the years, 1000+ Meeshoites have gone on DICE Visits across dozens of cities and seller hubs reflecting our deepening commitment to this practice.

  • Solve-First Framework: Every visit is centered on identifying on-ground micro-solve (not optional). Visits are planned according to geographies, with each Meeshoite aligned with a dedicated seller/valmo partner
  • Safety Protocols: Risk assessments and check-ins, for all participating employees
  • Documentation & Tools: Pre-visit context, solve trackers, and follow-up workflows
  • Feedback Loops: Insights documented, tagged, and routed to internal teams

Every insight is captured and analyzed. Thematic analysis reveals patterns of standard seller problems and platform gaps visible only on the ground.

Stories That Transform

Kumar Pratik, Senior Director of Engineering, returned from Delhi with renewed purpose: "The DICE visit ritual helps us connect directly with sellers across India, learning about their challenges and needs."

Yogit Nainani, Business Analyst – II, had his perspective transformed: "I helped a seller improve their listings and pricing strategy. Watching their confidence grow, I realized how much impact we can create with focused operational interventions."

Shivangi Singh, Assistant Manager - HR, came back moved by what she witnessed: "My DICE visit made me see what real impact Meesho has brought to the sellers on our app. The seller I visited had his entire family involved in the business and they were all extremely grateful to Meesho for expanding their sales, which were once limited to the neighbouring areas, to the entire country."

These stories actively inform roadmaps, spark new features, and reshape priorities.

The Ripple Effect

DICE doesn't end when employees return to their desks - that's where its impact begins. Engineers who watched sellers navigate the app in ways they hadn't anticipated began to revisit their feature assumptions. Product managers who observed usability gaps used those insights to reprioritize their backlogs. Designers who saw where confusion arose on the ground made significant changes to their workflows.

Team discussions now start with "When I was on my DICE visit..." The questions revolve around factual usability: Will this be clear to a new delivery partner? Is this what the seller really needs? How would this work in low-connectivity areas?

At Meesho, user-first has always been our internal mantra. DICE has deepened it, from a principle we champion, to a practice we live. We don't just put users first anymore. We stand beside them.

Real Impact

The accumulated insights from DICE visits help us refine our platform:

  • Sellers benefited from direct workflow simplifications
  • Routine operational changes across Valmo hubs based on partner feedback.
  • Features were built after hearing the consistent pain points: mobile-first listing previews, improved cash tracking, and AI-powered tools

What's Next?

DICE visits are a ritual that help us embed our mission into every corner of the organization. Here's how we are taking it deeper:

  • Participation: Every Meeshoite goes on at least one visit within their first 12 months - not as an observer, but with a mandate to solve something real on the ground
  • Deeper Reach: Expanding beyond established hubs to under-served seller categories and recent Valmo partner networks where insights are hard to capture but critical to uncover
  • Systematized insights that captures micro-problems, on-ground solutions, emerging patterns, and feeds them into internal workflows

The more our teams experience the ground reality, the better our platform becomes. That's not philosophy, that's just good product development.

By putting our teams directly in front of the sellers, delivery partners, and users who depend on our platform, we stay grounded in what actually matters. Behind every feature we ship, there's a seller we sat with. Behind every optimization, there's a delivery partner we learned from. Behind every decision, there's a real person whose life our platform touches.

That's how we build. That's how we stay true to DICE.
